Today (05/24) it was sweltering outside!! Seriously way above my heat threshold of about 76 degrees. It was hot and miserable so we spent the evening playing inside with the girls and the dogs.

Pigtails and Pizza
A Terrific Tuesday: An awesome (and cute) daughter, superb husband, beautiful weather, and Little Ceasars being advertised on an airplane flying high...2 large pizzas for $5!
Garden
This past Monday (May 17th) Jim, Charlotte and I were home suffering from pure weekend exhaustion. We spend the entire morning catching up on sleep and laying low. Later in the afternoon we felt it necessary to tackle the jungle we were calling a yard and get our plants into our already tilled up garden plot...6 hours later we were just as exhausted as when we began our recoop day but at least we were done!
Oh my...what big teeth you have.
Charlotte helped my plant....sort of...
After Jim was finished mowing he ran and got us dinner and we ate picnic style on a blanket in the freshly cut grass.
Charlotte thought my salad lid was a rocking cool toy.
And now for the main event...THE GARDEN!
We planted: Beefeater Tomatoes, Sweet Red Tomatoes, Jalapenos, Seranos, Bell Peppers, Sweet Red Peppers, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Pumpkins, Watermelon, Cucumbers, Potatoes, and Sweet Potatoes.
Whew!! Big? Yes, but we have the space and the motivation so why not?! We'll keep you posted on it!
Petey Mac
We left just after my Mom's party to go pick up our new puppy. The breeder lived up in Rock Valley, IA so it was much easier to go from Omaha than from Des Moines. It was a little over a two hour drive. We pulled up to a picture perfect house, surrounded by beautiful farmland, emacculate lawn, and a breeding house that matched their own home with very nice dog runs coming from both sides.
On one side was a saint, and another on the other side. We got excited and figured that must be the mom and dad. The big one started barking and all of the sudden 4 more grown saints come out and all the other puppies! It was crazy. You had to have seen it.
From the house came the owner carrying our puppy. They had already separated all of the puppies from their mom the way they kennelled them. Then, they separated out puppy from his littermates earlier hat day to help with the transition. We talked to her for a little bit, gathered our puppy and all of his things, got a quick picture taken and headed back.
Look at him! He is so cute!
We debated the name...
but quickly settled on Petey. It just fit him best!
He was a tired boy
He was very brave around Odie and Rudy.
So cute!

We made a rest stop.
He wasn't quite sure what to think.
But we already loved him
We got Jesse and Cheryl's house where he got to meet Charlotte for the first time! (They watched her so she didn't have to spend the whole day in the car)
Checking each other out
Hi new puppy!
He did very well his first night. Slept through the night. No wining. No getting up to go potty. Seriously awesome! The next morning we played outside for a bit.
Awww....I love him!
We headed home shortly after that. He found his buddy in the car quickly.
Welcome to tha family Petey Mac!!
Happy Birthday Mom!!
My Mom celebrated her 50th birthday on May15th and us kids put on a come and go birthday brunch for her. We had such a good time. Everything came off smoothly, we all worked our booties off and it paid off generously. My Mom had a great time! So many friends and family came to wish her a happy day, including my big counsin Heather who flew in from Texas to celebrate!
I don't know about other people and their parents, but in my mind my parents are perpetually somewhere around 40 years old. No more..no less. My mom is a super good example of that. She looks young, acts young, and enjoys life. Happy 50th Mom!

Happy Mother's Day!!
Charlotte loaned me her button. It says "its all about MEEEE!" It was a one day loan...clearly that button usually belongs to her.
Tulip Time 2010
This weekend my Mom came into town to visit and on Saturday we had a blast from college past and headed to Tulip Time in good old Pella. We stopped at the Dowtown Des Moines Farmers Market before hand because it is awesome. From there we drove down to Pella and made it there shortly before lunch.
The weather was COLD!!! We had a very early spring this year so the tulips were kaput. Hardly ANY left at all! We still had a nice time hanging out, watching the parade and enjoying all things Dutch.
Here is Charlotte watching the street sweepers. They come through and clean the street before the parade.
Watching the parade!!
Charlotte and Grandma
The Fam.
Charlotte got a cookie from one of the bakeries in the parade! YUM!
Ummm Mom...I think this pair is too big.
