Small Town Park

On our anniversary Saturday Jim and I did some searching for a new bed.  5 year anniversary is wood so we decided to purchase this together as it is something we have wanted for awhile.  To say we struck out in our search would be an understatement but I guess we will just have to keep looking.

After checking some places here in Des Moines we ventured up to Boone to try Redekers.  That was a total bust.  Since we were near enough, we decided to blow some time and end the day with dinner in Ames at a spot we have always enjoyed, Great Plains Sauce and Dough Co.

While deciding what to do we came across a park in Boone that we stopped at.  The park was gigantic, surrounded with old trees, tons of different areas.  I love small town old parks.  We spent most of our time in the "Kiddy Corral".  The kids had a blast and so did we.  A perfect family afternoon.

5 Years

This last Saturday was Jim and I's 5 year wedding anniversary.  It seems unimaginable that we have been married for five years.  It's not that 5 years seems like it has been so long.  In fact, I feel like Jim has always been in my life in the way that I just couldn't imagine it without him.  What is so hard to believe is that our wedding feels like it was not that long ago at all.

I remember our wedding day so vividly.  I couldn't have imagined the day going any better.  Everything was just as we hoped it would be.  The best part was definitely knowing it was just the beginning.

Rainbows.  I mean seriously.  Our day contained rainbows.

This picture is my favorite (I edited some our wedding pictures recently and finally fell in love with them)

What an amazing time we have had, but I think we both know, hands down, these guys are 2 of our biggest accomplishments in the last 5 years, and we have 2 more waiting for us on the other side of heaven.  We are very lucky indeed.

Happy Anniversary Babe.

Charlotte Says....

Today after lunch Jim was changing Oliver so Charlotte and I played in some nearby grass.  There were some weeds/flowers and she was super excited to pick one.  She held it up to her nose, sniffed hard, and said:

"mmmm...this flower smells like butterfly milk!"

Now I am not sure what butterfly milk is, but I am sure that this world needs more of it.  Wouldn't we all be a little happier with butterfly milk...delivered by unicorns, who come by way of rainbows.  I believe so.

Fun Havin'

Today the kids and I didn't do a whole lot.  Jim has been out of town since Monday and with the excitement of preschool coupled with wanting to get some other stuff done, today was spent winding down.

Charlotte has been asking about painting pumpkins for a couple of weeks already.  This last weekend the farmers market had tiny pumpkins and she was so pumped.  Seriously, she spent an awful lot of time picking up every single tiny pumpkin at the stand, weighing it's painting possibilities, and choosing just the right ones for her project.  Today we pulled out the pumpkins and opted for permanent markers instead of paint.  She was occupied for a good long time.

There was a moment today when I looked at the disaster that was our living room and for once instead of thinking "man, didn't I just have this clean?" I thought "man, my kids are having fun".

This smile slays me

Yes.  He is biting.
Brother is always showing us his toys with intense pride.

Fun lazy day was a total success and better yet Daddy got home tonight.  Happy hump day all!
